black beans took lentil's place

we almost had lentils last night
i was drawn to them yesterday
in the cool non-stop rain.

in repose, i settled for black beans
from a can-- dressed with salsa
dancing in a salad

harmonizing with sweet corn,
crunchy red peppers,
and enough garlic
for an army
of loyal lovers

of a mediterranean diet
salt shaker flying out the window
taking each bite in stride

as we hide from the authorities
telling us what would be best
for our reconstructed heart

"it's all for the best" that
he would leave you
for a diet rich in saturated fats

promi-sing a thick lipid kiss
on the lining of his brain
semi-permeable...keeping out the rain
