wading in shallow waters
“Use what language you will, you can never say anything but what you are.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
wading in the shallow waters
mid afternoon---tide only beginning
to reverse its dead low
i feel the current pushing back
my feet glide on semi-muddy bottom
in two hours the calm blue salty waters
will reach as high as my browned shoulders
i will plunge- thoughtless to irony,
tense, syntax, and meter- i will simply
swim and dream--look up to find
messages clearly shouting in the sky
i shall see a family of elephants dining,
or a den of wolves wailing-
i shall make out a couple
meeting to lightly kiss
or find a trio of monkeys
marauding in a trickling stream
by simply swimming,
i certainly shall not miss this
