nature and nurture, as braided constants

rain paints windows with crystal beads,
as traffic begins to move more slowly

a greater quiet surrounds the garden
we can hear the red wings swooping

patti smith sings, unaffected by
the rain that continues to nurture

nature suffused with culture
like oranges in a crate

culture endowed with nature
like the crab apple tree by the highway

coffee sipped in a ceramic mug
bought in alburquerque ten years ago

captures memories.... still- it's the scent
that reminds us- of the ancient- of our souls
