A memory of climbing Slide Mt., in the Catskills, late 90's

the mountain inspired a day hike-- a walk in the clouds
its prize--after the sweaty climb up the rocky steep incline

what was discovered at the top was thinner air, and a view to frame for postcards sent home to friends

she adjusted her lungs to the thinner air,
and set her camera on the ledge

for a panorama view of the surrounding mountains--
the  warm air of late summer

a soggy BLT sandwich never tasted so good, w
ashed down with lemon mint iced tea,
 the ice now fully melted

on the descent down the mountain she kept uppermost
in her mind-- perspective, persistence, "perpetual change..".

humming an old Yes tune to herself, she sensed her breathing slowly relax--
renewing faith in change--and in her self

how the mountain climbing reminded her---
never to give up in the face of adversity

in believing in one's perspective
never undermines others' perspectives

but simply creates a space to be
 more accepting

of the differences in everyone

as if some folks are clouds, some are leaves, and others, pebbles
in the riverbed---at the foot
of the mountain....

no one perspective wins-- we all share t
he same big blue sky, and walk upon the same
grand green earth
