camden memories~
~for edna st. vincent millay (her birthplace)
we were there simply
to worship the sea
from a bright white clapboard
with shiny black shutters
high up in the hills
we played our music deep
into the night of fireflies
and stars so bright
we could taste
the saltspray
from two blocks away
morning ragas at dawn
courted by a cacaphony of sea gulls
waters churning, voices burning
to match the sun's birth
rising out of wild waters
we found time to pause
for tea outside on the balcony
swept in endless song
we heard the sea
belt out the blues
so loud- the sleepy town
awoke--- and listened
as the heaving sea
by morning light
in rich shades
of holiness did glisten
