a single eye
"We do not see things as they are. We see things as we are." Anais Nin
all she knew out on the great sea
was blue blue blue staring at her
as she appeared to be gazing
back at skies & waters blue-
all while the sails were fully raised
their sheet music flapping with a steady
southwest wind--she was being
carried to heights that even she
knew nothing about--there's no
true north at sea, when the captain
takes the helm in his hands--
a magic trick to fool even
the schooled fish-a million eyes
shine from below the surface
of such clear waters...still--
no one knows the score
sailing at break neck speed
her heart needing to trust
the captain's anecdotal lead
the sails in lustrous abundance
carry all who choose to shine
as feathers tossed in changing wind
as a fearless pelican readying
for a nearly deadly storm
so far from home-
she can be relieved to be
without anything but a single eye--
one smashing sea, one solitary sky
