'Where two poplars crossed over' ~ prose poem

Image
Where the two poplar trees crossed over onto their deadened sides, on the north side of the goat path, is where we turned left. There was no time for sympathy. The two trees had a good long life, and now are fallen angels, resting with their hearts aligned to each other and to the sandy earth. We will continue to use the trees as a marker for our trail. The woods carry a sweet pungent scent from last night's downpour. This spring has been the coolest and wettest that I can remember. The coolness has allowed us to walk more deeply into the woods. Sometimes we walk into the woods without an itinerary. We agree to turn left, or turn right,  where the two poplar trees crossed over onto their deadened sides, on the north side of the goat path. But then, a yellow finch, or red boy cardinal will flit in our peripheries, arresting our attention; then, we must respect the sign, and follow it. Once we saw an entire family of forget-me-nots, and just stared in amazemen...

navigating

so she simply gets into a canoe and paddles her heart to balance between rock and stream, between two banks, several currents wildly asking for her canoe to direct itself out of the clogged mainstream out of the waterlogged driftwood out of the troubling undertow- a nation underfoot and overhead overheard and underfed a nation based on selfish greed a nation composed of souls who can't agree in polls that kindness is all we need being pulled out to sea, without compass, moss or map- curious just how spirit sails to its own celebration without the monkey in the middle distracting the simple sounds oars slicing the turbid sea mind unwashed from media there's a quiet place- far from lonely- a place driven by the magician's madness to know: our selves, the leaves, flowers, stars, sun, the moon, the magic of trees,, interfused words/photo~kate lamberg (c) '16

that red wheelbarrow is filling up with the rain that has not stopped falling- since the first of may i am thinking of you with a blurry adoration- and wondering how your world of medicine, mysticism, and absolute love for family & nature could work so seamlessly- how the books on your shelves in that sumptuous study with hints of gold and red could hold your attention as you wrote poems of both the deepness and the lightness of things how your words spill out of my new directions paperback, 'selected poems' i keep bedside--- next to edna, denise, pablo, w.s. surrounded by healing stones which serve to resonate the greatness of the simple ~kate lamberg (c) '16 google image, '16

calm as a sacred stone

you long for your own magic yet it's the earth that knows you've never been anything but magical and longs for you to mirror your purple hue even in the murkiest of harbours there you stand ensconced unaware of the rippling until salt water bellies up awakening you from a salty misconception caving into seaweed, nautilus shell- as birth laboring ceases at the tiny cry of new life along the first harbour you've ever known--now becoming immune to harshness, and calm as a sacred stone words and photo by kate lamberg
