witnessing
"Not causing harm requires staying awake.
Part of being awake is slowing down enough to notice what we say and do.
The more we witness our emotional chain reactions and understand how they work, the easier it is to refrain. It becomes a way of life to stay awake, slow down, and notice." ~Pema Chodron
she chose to stay awake
most of the night- beyond
choice--the gravitational pull
of the new moon, not yet
visible was all she needed
to know her worthiness
could bloom like a wild
hisbiscus in the cooler
blackness of night
softly studded with stars
the present moment, holding
the rhythm of wildflowers,
books, clouds unfolding-
a non-reactive essence
in the slow silence of feet letting go
